With the launch of its public testnet, Robinhood has formally opened up its own on-chain “frontier,” the Robinhood Chain, created using Arbitrum technology to build an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network that will allow developers to bring tokenized stocks and other real-world assets on-chain.

Building the On-Chain Financial Future

The Robinhood Chain public testnet represents a significant turning point in Robinhood’s history. While it’s not just another blockchain but intends to be a “financial-grade” Ethereum L2 that has been specifically designed for practical, real-world assets (RWAs) and respective use cases/applications [i.e., tokenized asset platforms, compliant decentralized finance (DeFi), etc.].

The Robinhood Chain claims to provide the same level of security and familiarity as Ethereum, but with much lower cost and much higher throughput and scalability than can typically be achieved through non-blockchain means when it comes to mainstream financial transactions. Several of the largest Web3 infrastructure solutions, including Chainlink and Alchemyare already integrated, signaling serious ecosystem backing from day one.

A Bridge for Millions of Users

The Robinhood Chain is another strategic move by the company to provide seamless connectivity from its 23 million existing users to the vast ecosystem of DeFi and on-chain assets. The public testnet phase will allow developers to experiment with key components/features of the new chain, including testing of Stock Tokens, as the company prepares for the mainnet launch, which is projected for late 2026.

Additionally, Robinhood has made an important USD 1 million investment in the Arbitrum Open House developer program to showcase its commitment to inviting builders to create this new financial layer.

Final Take

This year, the Robinhood Chain public testnet will mark the exchange's first step toward the unification of traditional brokerage with decentralized finance. Ultimately, it's important to mention that Robinhood's goal is to build and provide the proper infrastructure for tokenization and make its blockchain a main location for bridging Wall Street investors to the crypto market. A clever way to stay ahead in the financial onchain race.
