LayerZero (ZRO) Price Outlook Amid Upcoming 2.4% Token Supply Unlock

Layerzero (ZRO) Price Outlook Amid Upcoming 2.4% Token Supply Unlock Today

LayerZero (ZRO) enters a critical trading session today as a fresh batch of tokens moves from vesting contracts into active circulation. At 14:30 UTC, roughly 2.4% of the total token supply becomes liquid. In practical terms, about 24 million ZRO tokens are released into the market at once.

ZRO is trading at about $1.56 right now, showing a small gain of 1.9% in the last 24 hours. But when you look at the wider trend, it tells a weaker story. The token has fallen 20% just this past week, and it’s down 23.7% over the last month. Over the whole year, it’s dropped more than 37%. It’s also sitting far below its highest ever price of $7.47, meaning it’s fallen nearly 80% since it reached that peak in December 2024.

Unlock Pressure Meets a Weak Trend Environment

The main concern at the moment is whether the market can handle 2.4% of the total supply being released quickly without causing big price swings.

While ZRO’s daily trading volume is over $122 million, which offers some cushion given current activity, short-term price changes are still possible.

In addition, it’s unclear who will receive the unlocked tokens. Past experience shows that if a large share goes to investors, early contributors, or the team, they might sell off some tokens. Early investors often take profits when liquidity appears in similar unlocks for mid-cap tokens, especially when the market is going down. This kind of selling can temporarily overpower the actual demand.

Market structure also plays a role here. ZRO has already been trending downward across multiple timeframes, meaning the market has been under gradual distribution pressure. In many cases, traders begin pricing in unlock events days or even weeks ahead. This often leads to a pattern where price weakens into the event, followed by sharp volatility on the unlock day itself, and then stabilisation once the new supply is absorbed.

Broader LayerZero Ecosystem Still Expanding Despite Price Weakness

Even though the price has been weak recently, the LayerZero ecosystem keeps growing quietly. The protocol just added Stargate Finance (STG), bringing together different cross-chain liquidity tools into one system. This move strengthens its position in the interoperability space, which is becoming more important in crypto.

A good example of this trend is how XRP was recently added to the Solana network using wrapped XRP (wXRP). This token is backed one-to-one by native XRP held in custody, allowing it to be used across Solana-based decentralised finance platforms. This kind of expansion relies on infrastructure layers that work similarly to LayerZero’s messaging and bridging systems. These layers help move assets across different blockchains without depending on separate ecosystems.

At the same time, XRP is also reaching users in new ways. There’s now a WhatsApp-based trading interface that lets people trade XRP directly through messaging bots. This shows a shift toward “conversational trading,” where financial activities happen inside everyday communication apps instead of standalone exchanges.

These changes show how infrastructure, distribution, and user experience are starting to overlap more. Still, ZRO’s price history suggests that having important infrastructure doesn’t always lead to strong token performance right away. Right now, the market seems to focus more on short-term liquidity rather than the long-term usefulness of the protocol.

Short-Term Outlook: Volatility Over Direction

With today’s 2.4% token unlock, it’s more likely we’ll see increased volatility instead of a clear up or down trend. If a large number of unlocked tokens hit the market fast, we might experience more selling pressure around and just after 14:30 UTC. But if buyers take their time absorbing the tokens and holders don’t rush to sell, the effect might only show as a short burst in trading volume without a lasting drop.

Notably, LayerZero (ZRO) is already in a long-term downtrend, sentiment is fragile, and previous highs are far out of reach. In such conditions, supply shocks tend to have an outsized psychological effect, even when the absolute unlock size is moderate.
